Nevertheless

Wear a dress and you’re hollered at on streets; But wear a turtleneck and you’re a prude. Trust too quickly and you’re naïve; But keep your guard up and you’re a shrew. Speak too loudly and you’re abrasive; But speak too softly and you’re demure. Smile at a stranger and you’re asking for it; But avoid eye contact and you’re hormonal. Report too soon and you regret your judgment; But wait too long and you’re a liar. Love too much and you’re a “whore;” But love too little and you’re a “bitch.” Walk this tightrope every day, And don’t dare to question it or complain; Because you’re “lucky” to be here, To be “good at math, For a girl;” Even though you’re “bad at geography, Like a girl.” Nevertheless, she persisted.
